The exposure index (EI) is information on radiation controls. This has been an issue from the earliest days when radiation was used very recklessly. The results were not good, resulting in loss of fingers, hands and life.
The manufactures of radiographic equipment are now incorporating a dose rate meter to measure and provide a record of personal dosage for continuing examinations.
Manufactures of computed radiology (CR) and direct digital systems (DR) have incorporated their EI system for technologists to use as a “guide” in their digital systems.
There is a plan to synchronize the EI systems for all providers of digital processing systems. This will be a better control of digital imaging radiation and simplify the process for technologists.
